May 20, 2021 – World Embroidery Day

Today, May 20, is World Embroidery Day – a holiday that aims to preserve the ancient folk traditions of creating and wearing ethnic embroidered clothing.
Embroidery has long been a key element of Ukrainian national clothing. Patterned shirts – a reflection of the values, traditions, culture and history of our people.
This year’s anniversary Day of embroidery is proposed to be dedicated to Ukrainian traditional music and environmental issues.
For a long time, for Ukrainians, the embroidered shirt played not so much the function of clothing as it was a kind of amulet against various evils. Therefore, patterns on shirts and dresses were applied to sleeves, collars and hem.
